Rainwater Botanicals Deodorant Review

You know what sucks? Smelling bad and having pit stains. You know what sucks worse? Not smelling bad, no pits stains, but potentially developing cancer and/or Alzheimers. The antiperspirant in many conventional deodorants is aluminum, and although information on its effects on the body are conflicting, it's something I have chosen to forgo. Just conceptually, it makes sense to me that your body's method of expelling toxins and regulating body temp (sweating) is a good thing and shouldn't be inhibited with antiperspirants.

However. It doesn't mean I want to be smelly. Which brings me to the following:

The Natural Deodorant by the Etsy shop Rainwater Botanicals. I've tried several types of natural (aluminum-free) deodorants, including the highly-lauded Soapwalla and Bubble and Bee's Pit Putty, and this is by far the best for me. Soapwalla was fine, it worked well, but it was gritty and I had to give it up when I discovered my jojoba allergy (which, sorry, I'm already sick of writing about so I'm sure you're sick of reading it!). For me, Bubble and Bee didn't work at all, but it worked great for my boyfriend.

Then I came across this deodorant online and quickly fell in love. I have the lavender and sage scent, which is very herbal and not overly feminine (which I also like). I've used this bad boy while running, at yoga, while skiing, during a hard-core kalari class....and at the end of the day, I still don't stink! It's wondrous. I also notice that I don't tend to get pit stains as badly as with the Pit Putty (I'm guessing it's due to their new formulation that includes Kaolin clay?). So it's not stopping perspiration, but it's helping absorb moisture before it reaches your silk tops. Bonus!

I also really like the owner of the shop, Sara. My first try at this deodorant failed because the container stopped working. Sara suggested a way to fix it, but when that also failed she sent out a whole new deodorant, free of charge, in the container seen above. Her customer service is above par, and so was the deodorant!

For the record, I'm not trying to slam any other products, but simply to mention my personal experience! In reading other blogs that highlight natural products, I've found that the positive reviews are very helpful to open my eyes to great new stuff, but the negative ones can be just as helpful to steer me away from products that likely won't work for me. The road to healthier product choices is full of trial and error, and it can get costly for that reason alone! That being said, deodorants ARE one product that are highly specific to the person, so go ahead and try Soapwalla/Pit Putty--you may love it!

  1. This is a brand I've been wanting to try! I will definitely get this deodorant at some point, once I'm finished with all the ones I have.

  2. I have purchased from her twice now- once to get a sampler, and once to get some full sized deodorants. Both times she included samples (genius way to get me addicted to more of her fine products!!) and she IS very nice. I highly recommend the deodorants- I had long given up on safe AND stinky free...UNTIL I discovered Rainwater Botanicals! :D

  4. I've been using the Lavender/Vanilla the past few months. It's winter, so I don't know how it will hold up in the heat of Wenatchee. So far, though, I noticed how much more comfortable my underarms feel. Enjoy applying it, I haven't noticed much powdery residue. The scent is mild.

  5. I agree! Unlike some natural deodorants, which can feel scratchy or rough, this one feels very similar to some conventional deodorants I've used.
