3 amazing home tours

Lately I've run across a series of homes that I would happily take as my own. Now I'm off to analyze and figure out how to combine the best of all three into my dream home :)

First up, a beachy bungalow from Apartment Therapy. I love this home for the cheery feel and lighthearted attitude. I want to be friends with these girls, which I feel is a great sign of a beautiful, personal home.

The Moroccan blanket makes this room....the Beni rug doesn't hurt I guess either ;) Lately I've been really into neutral, textured rooms, and this fits the bill.

Fabric purchase + beautiful home to peruse

Thanks to Fabric Guru, I just bought me a $5.95 yard (regularly $49.99!) of the beautiful Robert Allen Khanjali Peacock fabric that I've been eyeing for months! Isn't she a beaut??

I've also had my eye on this beautiful silk for forever:

...which you can find here as just fabric or here as a premade pillow in a slightly different colorway (which, hmmm maybe I should consider instead of the green?). It's from one of my favorite stores, Furbish (wish I could afford it!).

I don't really think the two fabrics go together based on the online images but I thought I'd get my Khanjali in and see how true the colors run to that sample...from what I've seen online it appears much more teal and less green/yellow. So we'll see if I can make them both happen!

Secondly, I ran across this image from Rashida Jones' home...

...and thought it was great inspiration for my new table (even though I've left mine natural wood--two coats of clear poly are on and look amazing!). I love the mix of genres (French couch, Moroccan table, graphic artwork). So I did a little digging and it turns out I love both her Manhattan and LA homes....homegirl's got style!! PS. Another thing I love from this pic: the sconces built into the bookcases. Seems like a great DIY to make free-standing bookcases look more custom...flank a couch in bookcases, put wiring through bookcases, drill small hole in back of bookcase to let wiring trail down the back of the bookcase....cool, no?

Fell in love on Apartment Therapy

So anyone reading a tiny little blog like mine likely already knows about Apartment Therapy, which is why I don't like to repost things from there. However, this tiny little beautiful studio captured my heart so I want to point out the things I love about it.

That tiny French sofa is so perfect in scale and style

The hanging dresses give a glimpse into the owner's personality, and the clear CB2 table lets your eye skim over the space, making it appear larger

She maximizes space efficiently with the dresser and hooks but it's still beautiful because of her tablescape

Cute little black and white desk area

Rug delineates the space, and the scale and function of the furniture is perfect. For example, the garden stool functions as an end table now and extra seating when she has guests

Cute little backsplash. In a more elegant home this may look a little juvenile but here it lends more vintage charm. I like that she decorated even her kitchen walls with her favorite art.

I'm a sucker for a vintage pulldown flora poster, and here she effectively uses a child's desk that I always see on Craigslist.

Love that storage piece--the glass front makes all the pieces inside look like art, not just junky storage

In a small bathroom, decorating the walls with favorite art brings personality and makes the space quaint, not cramped

Such a cute little bathroom, and I like the little wood piece holding towels. Items that are usually stored away in a larger space can be left out in the open, as long as it's done beautifully, so it doesn't look cluttered

Every space is imbued with the owner's personality! Love it!

House Beautiful does a beautiful house

This is old, so you've probably seen it, but I wanted to highlight a few ideas that you could easily incorporate in your own home.

Tips:

• Cheery paint color and white basics make everything homey and welcoming
• Use large-scale art for impact.
• Mix genres...here modern white nesting tables are paired with more elaborate chairs
• Using varying intensities of the same color is pleasing to the eye. Here, various shades of yellow plus orange combine to beautiful effect.
• Even the most chic house can use a little DIY. Here, they added screens to the lower portion of the walls, reutilized a camp cot as a chic coffee table, and made trays from cookie sheets and contact paper.

I love this house!

2 home tours I love

This week I found two places I absolutely love and would move into in a second. I'm showing the pics I loved best, but check out Apartment Therapy and Design Sponge for more goodies :)

First up, Kristin's Hollywood Home....I love the architecture of the whole place, but especially the girly, beautiful choices she made through textiles and unique furniture.

She made the pelmets from the Little Green Notebook tutorial I posted on a while ago. Love the matching headboard and pelmets!


Lucky girl, has a dressing room! I like the wood trim on the cabinet below the fabulous mirror...makes it more interesting.


Her living room is beautiful in orange and purple...sounds like a crazy color combo but because of the tones she used it's actually pretty restful. See the rest here!

Next we have a sneak peak from Paul and Jordan Ferney. Love the furniture choices and beautiful but laid-back style...you could make yourself fully at home here (I wish I could!)

I wanna figure out a way to make a dresser like this. Any ideas on where to find the brass corner thingies?


Isn't this great small-space design? All the furniture holds its own...and I spot a Michelle Armas painting...jealous!! (more on that coming soon)
