Studio inspiration

Here are a couple of the latest ideas for my place

Top of the door is underrated. May line up postcards from trips on top...is that tacky?

Come to think of it, I prefer this idea: postcards framed in floating frames

Or this.

I want me some metallic floor pillows.

Have ugly boob light fixture in my bathroom. Plan to over with something along the lines of this paint swatch DIY. Only in gradients of white and black

Boxes. Labels. Yep.
Glass bottles with puffpaint designs and white paint overall

Fall decor!

Bookshelves are so chic when they're horizontal

Updates on my studio

Just paid my 2nd rent check so I figured it's about time for an update on how things are looking at my studio. Most likely no one is interested, but I find that posting things helps point out to myself what still needs to be done.

Things to do/change:
  • I want to move the microwave (big black box by the sink) but don't have anywhere else to put it right now
  • I need to buy a tension rod and make a curtain for that space under the microwave to hide the art supplies I store there
  • Paint the large frame around my Chile painting white. Originally yellow, I painted it grey at my old place to set it off from the white walls. Now that my walls are grey/creamish, white would look better.
  • Coffee table needs to go. I want something smaller with a cushion on top so I can prop up my feet. I found a really cool table base at a local antique shop that looks very similar to the table in the pic below...I'd paint mine white though. Not sure what fabric I'd put on top? Hmmmm....

Overall I'm ok with this space, mostly because there's not a whole lot else I can do.
However, I do want to:
  • Cover all my textbooks with brown paper bags and write their titles in gold Sharpie. Sounds ghetto but look how pretty my inspiration pic is!
See those books in the fireplace? Also love the gold mirror and white vases with flowers :)

I've set up a tiny little entryway station on top of my grandma's green hamper that holds my blankets.
Things to do:
  • Get a tray to put everything on so it looks more intentional and organized
  • Put up a fabric-covered corkboard next to the door for invites/cards/etc
  • Hang the two large paintings on the wall on the right.
  • Something's off about the two photo frames to the right of the door too....?
Start of a gallery wall over my vanity/kitchen table (studio, ya gotta multipurpose ;) I just put this up yesterday and I love seeing all my favorite people and mementos all in one spot when I have dinner and get ready in the morning.
Thing to do:
  • Move the desk a little left so the 'entryway' table has a little more breathing room. Can't go too much left because then there's no room at the stove...
Closeup. I want to put up a mirror to the right of the lamp, balance it out a little more that way.

This corner is pretty much set, except for hanging those two large paintings.

Then there's my bathroom, which is a disaster right now but I just bought a dresser, am refurbishing it, and will whip that all into shape in no time :)

So what do you think? Suggestions? Things you like? Things you hate?

My house as of 7:30 this morning...

....was pretty much a mess. But it's myyyyy mess, allllll mine :)

So far? LOVING living on my own and I fall in love with my space a little more each day. I cleared out a lot of the extraneous moving stuff today so it looks even better now than in this suuuuper shitty phone pics....but here's a (blurry) idea of how it's shaping up!

All the key pieces are in, now I'm just trying to get rid of extra furniture and I need a dresser desperately, but that will all come in due time :)

Trying to decide if I should sell one of the blue chairs....They're the only real seating in the space cuz it's so tiny, but I don't know if 2 are overpowering. I'll probably live with them a bit and make my decision once it's obvious how I live in this space.

Desk-cum-vanity-cum-kitchen table is in place and working nicely :)

The boy was very tired this morning (poor guy got stuck helping me move all weekend) and was not happy to have his photo done did at 7:30 AM...haha.

So that's that!

Fell in love on Apartment Therapy

So anyone reading a tiny little blog like mine likely already knows about Apartment Therapy, which is why I don't like to repost things from there. However, this tiny little beautiful studio captured my heart so I want to point out the things I love about it.

Tiny little studio...beautiful, collected-over-time, vintage feel

That tiny French sofa is so perfect in scale and style

The hanging dresses give a glimpse into the owner's personality, and the clear CB2 table lets your eye skim over the space, making it appear larger

She maximizes space efficiently with the dresser and hooks but it's still beautiful because of her tablescape

Cute little black and white desk area

Rug delineates the space, and the scale and function of the furniture is perfect. For example, the garden stool functions as an end table now and extra seating when she has guests

Cute little backsplash. In a more elegant home this may look a little juvenile but here it lends more vintage charm. I like that she decorated even her kitchen walls with her favorite art.

I'm a sucker for a vintage pulldown flora poster, and here she effectively uses a child's desk that I always see on Craigslist.

Love that storage piece--the glass front makes all the pieces inside look like art, not just junky storage

In a small bathroom, decorating the walls with favorite art brings personality and makes the space quaint, not cramped

Such a cute little bathroom, and I like the little wood piece holding towels. Items that are usually stored away in a larger space can be left out in the open, as long as it's done beautifully, so it doesn't look cluttered

Every space is imbued with the owner's personality! Love it!

So what do you guys think? What's your favorite part?

Long-overdue DIY Day

Strap in guys, this is a long one:

Yuuuuuummmmmmyyyyyy

little study nook with hanging baskets of pens/supplies and a chalkboard

Looks like the 'headboard' is made of plywood....in a small space it makes for good storage (or at least a shelf to put your necessities)

I could paint that

As always, the nailhead trim gets me

Seems like the bf could cut out the inside of this real easy

More studded fabric doors. Seriously can't get enough

Seems like you could paint these real easy, and they're like $4 a piece at IKEA

It's a all pretty, but the world map on the right is what really grabbed my attention

Easy DIY with storage to boot.

Wallpaper roller shade
elements of style
This would be perfect for right by the front door--leave notes and a place to throw your keys, etc

Unique bathroom in what could be a very ugly space...I like the skirt around the sink that provides easy storage
parlour
Studding on the couch...mmmm....

I like the wall pattern on the top
mustard ceiling

3 wall mirrors, horizontal, makes a cheap large-scale wall at

mustard ceiling

painting emphasizes the pretty mirrors without being an overwhelming "accent wall"

studio 42
I like the curtain "wall"....could be a great solution for a studio

meg braff
This person tiled a plywood board so she can take her backsplash with her when she leaves and spice up her kitchen while she's here

Pattern via tile in the same color, different iridescence

Monthly calendar on washi tape

lolalina
short bench with 2 suitcases makes a cute entry console

Live creating yourself
Mirrored sconces bounce candle light like crazy

live creating yourself
Aphro chic--cool pattern

I like the white dress-belt-jean shirt combo.

Cool pull-apart table

Varying hues of blue....just beautiful and subtle

Ribbon-pull drawer handles

Frame useful objects--could use as entryway "console table" with a hook for your jacket and shelf for your keys

glamorai
I like the simple console with the elaborate trim

glam lamb
Grey and white zebra stripes....subtle but splashy at the same time

Can barely see it...but framed wallpaper sample over the kitchen table

Really easy DIY table at the end of the bed with studs

Dwell studio
I like the plain top that goes with everything and a contrasting, patterned fabric for the sides

Got a small hallway/awkwardly-sized room? Make it into a library!

Beautiful headboard.

Table from the first pic, in a beautiful room

Bazaar of serendipity
She hung the curtains from hospital track so it was all the way to the ceiling--draws the eye up and is less visually cluttered than a typical curtain rod/rings

Bazaar of serendipity
Plant and stand inside lucite side table....pretty room to boot!

bazaar of serendipity
Tiny furniture can pull off patterns. Plus I think the bf could make me a similar bench at work. And, as always, I love the studded side table

bazaar of serendipity
Such a cheery kitchen in what could've been a dump. I like the fabric curtain and striped rug

apartment therpay
Pretty living room! Simple and gorgeous :)
Ala Mode
Sweet paul

Could be pretty painted

I'm a sucker for details like the ribbon on the pillows

Rug idea: ornate pattern with polka dots

Another rug idea

Good conversation starter!

This makes a really cool repeat pattern....they made drop cloth curtains

Looooove this fabric by Robert Allen
